Angels: Recalled RHP Chris Bootcheck from Class AAA Salt Lake for yesterday's start against the Yankees. Los Angeles needed a starter because LHP Jarrod Washburn has a sore elbow.

Athletics: OF Mark Kotsay returned to the lineup after missing five games with an injured back. Manager Ken Macha said Kotsay would probably get today off since Oakland opens a series on the artificial turf in Minnesota. . . . OF Bobby Kielty missed his second straight game with a bad back and was expected to return today.

Mariners: Newly acquired C Miguel Ojeda was optioned to Class AAA Tacoma after yesterday's game. His place on the roster will be taken by C Yorvit Torrealba, also acquired over the weekend in a trade with the Giants. . . . LHP George Sherrill was added to the roster to replace LHP Ron Villone, who was traded to the Marlins.

Rangers: Recalled LHP C.J. Wilson from Class AA Frisco and optioned 1B Adrian Gonzalez to Class AAA Oklahoma. Wilson started yesterday's game against the Blue Jays.

Red Sox: Purchased the contract of RHP Jon Papelbon from Class AAA Pawtucket and gave him the start yesterday against the Twins. . . . Optioned LHP Lenny DiNardo to Pawtucket.

Royals: C John Buck was back in the lineup after being rested the last two games.
