Indians: Recalled IF Ramon Vazquez from Class AAA Buffalo. DH Travis Hafner, who hasn't played for Cleveland since July 16 when he was hit in the face by a pitch, went 0 for 4 and was hit by a pitch last night at Class AA Akron. He could be activated today.

Red Sox: Optioned RHP Jon Papelbon to Class AAA Pawtucket to make room on the roster for OF Jose Cruz Jr. Acquired on Saturday in a trade with the Diamondbacks, Cruz started in right field last night against the Royals and went 0 for 2 with a walk.

Cruz is a career .248 hitter and former Gold Glove winner who has hit at least 20 home runs in four of the last five seasons.

Tigers: Agreed to an $18.4 million, four-year contract extension with 2B Placido Polanco through the 2009 season. Polanco, 29, acquired from the Phillies on June 8, is batting .362 with 22 runs scored, 9 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs and 17 RBI in 32 games with Detroit.
