The 2007 NBA All-Star Game is headed to Las Vegas, the first time a city without a franchise has been chosen to host the event.

The festivities will take place just off the Strip, at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus.

Commissioner David Stern called it "a merger between the basketball capital of the world and the entertainment capital of the world."

Casinos will not take bets on any all-star events.

* LAKERS: Second-round draft pick Ronny Turiaf, who underwent open-heart surgery last month, canceled a news conference yesterday because he did not feel well.

Turiaf was chosen 37th from Gonzaga and had surgery July 26 to repair an enlarged aortic root that was discovered in a post-draft physical exam.

* LEBRON HIRES AGENT: Cavaliers all-star F LeBron James, who fired agent Aaron Goodwin shortly after last season, has hired Leon Rose to represent him, a spokesman for the NBA Players Association said.

* SIGNINGS: G Damon Stoudamire signed a four-year contract with the Grizzlies. The 10-year veteran averaged 15.8 points and 5.7 assists with the Trail Blazers last season. . . . The Bucks re-signed F Toni Kukoc to a one-year contract. . . . Rookie free agent Rawle Marshall signed with the Mavericks. . . . The 76ers signed undrafted free agents Shavlik Randolph and Deng Gai.
