Cheryl Ford had 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Detroit Shock moved closer to the WNBA playoffs with a 55-40 victory over the visiting Indiana Fever last night.

The victory means Detroit (16-17) will get the fourth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot if Washington loses to Connecticut tonight or if the Shock beats the Mystics tomorrow.

Indiana (20-13) is locked into the East's second seed.

Ruth Riley added 12 points for Detroit. Tamika Catchings had 13 points to lead Indiana.

Indiana's points total was a season low, and it was a franchise record for fewest points allowed by Detroit. The Shock gave up 41 points against Sacramento in 1998.
