Cubs: Placed RHP Kerry Wood on the 15-day disabled list and purchased the contract of reliever Jermaine Van Buren from Class AAA Iowa.

The Cubs also recalled OF Matt Murton from Iowa. He will fill the roster spot of Todd Hollandsworth, who was traded to the Braves on Monday.

Wood will undergo season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder today and hopes to be ready to pitch by spring training.

Diamondbacks: RHP Javier Vazquez had stomach flu and missed his start against the Padres last night. LHP Brad Halsey (8-11, 4.44 ERA) moved up one day to start.

Padres: SS Khalil Greene was activated from the 15-day disabled list and started last night against Arizona. He had been out since breaking his left big toe while diving for a ball against the Phillies on Aug. 14.
