Devil Rays at Yankees

Tampa Bay has had the Yankees' number all season; New York is 5-10 against the usually hapless Devil Rays going into tonight's game. Tonight's starter, Mark Hendrickson, is 2-0 in three starts against the Yankees this season.

Mariners: Recalled IF Ramon Santiago before the loss last night to the Athletics. Santiago, 26, did not play in Seattle's 8-7 loss. He is making his second appearance with the Mariners after batting .179 in 15 games last year.

He spent the entire season with Class AAA Tacoma, where he hit .255 with 10 homers and 50 RBI.

Santiago made his major league debut with the Tigers in 2002 and was dealt to the Mariners in the 2004 trade that involved SS Carlos Guillen.

Tigers: Purchased the contract of reliever Matt Ginter from Class AAA Toledo. Ginter was 0-0 with a 5.47 ERA in 10 games with the Tigers earlier this season. For the Mud Hens, he was 4-3 with a 4.33 ERA in 17 appearances, including 10 starts.

Yankees: OF Gary Sheffield left the game last night against the Devil Rays with a tight hamstring. His status was day-to-day.
