1. Can O'Connell make it three WCAC titles in a row?

Seven starters are gone from last year's Knights squad that dominated the competition en route to a 20-0 record and a top national ranking. But No. 1 O'Connell should be strong again behind standouts F Liz Carroll (23 goals, 14 assists) and F Brooke Chang (17 goals).

2. SMAC title up for grabs.

One year after Westlake earned its first SMAC title, the Wolverines are poised to repeat with eight starters back, including standout F Lauren Russell (16 goals, nine assists). They will face a stiff challenge in Leonardtown, which has nine starters back, including MF Heather Cooke (13 goals, nine assists). Don't be surprised to see Patuxent also in the mix.

3. Can Whitman repeat?

The Vikings have seven starters back from last year's team that won the school's first Maryland 4A title, but must compensate for the graduation of All-Met F Erica Wright (team-high 11 goals). The Vikings also are under the direction of a new coach, as Greg Herbert replaces Tony Pykosh, who stepped down after his third season. Whitman's biggest strength is a defense that features Jessie Selter, Ellie Taylor, Katie McFadden and Katharine Laco (seven goals, nine assists).
