It is a league known for its powerhouse teams as well as its overall level of play. But this weekend had to be one of the most disappointing in quite some time for the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference -- six of the league's seven teams lost, including Good Counsel and DeMatha, which were ranked one-two in The Post's preseason poll.

The Nov. 5 game between Good Counsel and DeMatha likely still will be a marquee matchup, but it certainly lost some luster after those teams lost highly-touted regional games this past Friday. Good Counsel lost to Robinson, 21-6, and DeMatha lost to Gilman of Baltimore, 22-19.

"We could have ducked Gilman, played somebody else and probably won," DeMatha Coach Bill McGregor said. "But why do that? If you're going to be good, play the best competition you can find. I'm sure [Good Counsel Coach] Bob Milloy feels the same way."

Paul VI Catholic is the WCAC's only undefeated team. The Panthers (2-0) play Bullis (1-0) on Friday before hosting DeMatha.

Robinson's Lucas Caparelli sends the WCAC to a rough weekend with his team's 21-6 win over Good Counsel.
