It's too early to think about Bethesda-Chevy Chase's first postseason appearance since 1995, but the Barons have a talented running back in Kofi Amouzou (110 yards rushing in season-opening victory) and a favorable early schedule that could build confidence. Starting tonight with Watkins Mill, which has lost 20 of its past 21 games, B-CC's next four opponents won a combined seven games last season. Still, Coach John Zehner said: "The other teams are circling B-CC as much as we're circling anyone on our schedule. They're not seeing B-CC and running away. We're still seeing a lot of homecomings." . . .
Forestville RB Wayne Moten carried three times for 140 yards and two touchdowns in a season-opening victory last week, but he goes against a much more difficult opponent tomorrow -- No. 7 Gwynn Park. The Yellow Jackets have won 46 of their past 48 regular season games and allowed only six points in their opening victory. . . .
Teams that start 0-2 do not have to forget about making playoff plans. Since Maryland doubled its playoff field from 32 to 64 teams in 2003, several teams have overcome 0-2 starts to make the postseason, including Friendly, Oxon Hill and Walkersville last season. In 2003, three teams -- Joppatowne, Loch Raven and Washington -- even started 0-3 and still made the playoffs.
