Game of the Day
White Sox at Twins
Minnesota's Johan Santana is 3-0 in three starts against Chicago this year with a 1.16 ERA, bad news for a Chicago team trying to hold on to what was once a huge lead in the AL Central.
Indians: 2B Ronnie Belliard sat out last night's game against the Royals with an abdominal strain. He did not take batting practice, remaining in the clubhouse with an ice bag wrapped to his right side.
Mariners: Activated RHP Gil Meche from the 15-day disabled list before last night's game against the Rangers. Meche had been on the DL since Aug. 20 with tendinitis in his right knee.
Tigers: Closer Troy Percival doesn't need surgery on his right elbow, according to physician Lewis Yocum. Percival, 36, has been sidelined since July 10 because of a muscle tear in his elbow. He was 1-2 with a 5.76 ERA and had three blown saves in 11 chances.
Twins: RHP Carlos Silva will have surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee "as soon as possible," Manager Ron Gardenhire said. Silva finished the season 9-8 with a 3.44 ERA, walking just eight batters in 1881/3 innings.
