Liverpool held Manchester United to a 0-0 tie yesterday in the English Premier League -- the first scoreless game between the teams since 1991. Liverpool has not allowed a goal in four league games and has scored only one.

"It was maybe the intensity of the game, I don't know, but you could see 0-0 written all over it from early on," Manchester United Manager Alex Ferguson said. "Maybe this game is just too important now."

United captain Roy Keane broke a bone in his left foot and will be sidelined for up to two months.

Michael Owen scored his first goal for Newcastle in a 3-0 win at Blackburn. It was Newcastle's first victory of the season. Owen, who moved to Newcastle from Real Madrid, scored with a header in the 68th minute. Alan Shearer and Charles N'Zogbia also scored.

* MLS: Roberto Mina scored twice, helping FC Dallas clinch a playoff berth with a 2-1 win over visiting Real Salt Lake.

FC Dallas (11-9-6) snapped a 10-game winless streak and won for the first time at Pizza Hut Park. Real Salt Lake (5-17-4) lost its sixth straight game.
