Although a two-game lead gives DeMatha the inside track to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference regular season title, the Stags may a get a postseason push from a Carroll team that is much improved from when the two met three weeks ago.

Since that 2-0 setback on Sept. 9, Carroll has won five in a row, highlighted by last Friday's 2-0 victory over Gonzaga. That game pulled the Lions into a second-place tie in the conference with the Purple Eagles. Carroll will visit DeMatha on Oct. 11 and host Gonzaga two weeks later.

During the streak, Lions senior All-Met Joel Senior has not been forced to carry the team. Junior Courtney Hewitt scored in four of the five victories, while the defense, keyed by senior Aldo Rojas and junior Suila Fon, has shut out three of the five opponents and outscored them 13-2.

Still, it was Senior's two spectacular goals that gave Carroll the victory over Gonzaga. His first-half score came after splitting two defenders and coasting in on a breakaway. In the second half, Senior hit the top left corner from about 20 yards with a perfectly placed shot.

"Both goals were just brilliant," Carroll Coach Glen Diaz said, "but it's important that we're getting help from the backline. That's been the biggest part of this" winning streak.
