QUOTABLE

"I don't expect nothing. Didn't I cover this about a month ago already? . . . I just expect to live and breathe, and hopefully everything else will take care of itself."

Cardinals: RHP Al Reyes left yesterday's season finale against the Reds with a sprained right elbow, putting his availability for the playoffs in doubt. Reyes, who has a 2.15 ERA and three saves, got the first two outs in the sixth before giving up an infield hit and a walk. He left with a full count on Felipe Lopez, meeting with athletic trainer Barry Weinberg on the mound before leaving the game.

Cubs: RHP Kerry Wood missed the final weekend to return to his Phoenix area home, and will begin rehabbing his shoulder this week. Athletic trainer Mark O'Neal said Wood remains on schedule to begin throwing by mid-December.

Manager Dusty Baker said he believes Wood will come back strong next season after the shoulder surgery.

THE RUN IS OVER

Cubs RHP Greg Maddux finished with a losing record (13-15) for the first time since going 6-14 as a rookie in 1987, and his string of 17 straight seasons with at least 15 wins ended.
