O'Connell (4-1, 2-0 WCAC) takes a three-game winning streak into tomorrow's game against fourth-ranked DeMatha. With a game next week against Good Counsel, the Knights should find out quickly where they stand. Since losing consecutive games, Good Counsel (3-2, 2-0) shut out its first two WCAC opponents and tomorrow will play Carroll, which it has shut out in each of the past two seasons. . . .
Defending Mid-Atlantic Conference champion Sidwell Friends has served notice that it intends to capture its sixth consecutive title after retooling its rushing attack. The Quakers (2-2, 2-0) moved 6-foot-4, 235-pound senior tight end Andrew Fertig to fullback and senior linebacker Zack Mueller to halfback to assist senior running back Andrew Kessner. The move has paid off as the Quakers have scored twice as many points (75) in their last two games than in their first two. Kessner and Mueller have combined for 302 yards and seven touchdowns in the past two games. During that stretch, senior quarterback Daniel White completed 13 of 31 passes for 161 yards and one touchdown. . . .
No. 5 Gwynn Park, which plays at No. 14 Suitland tomorrow, has won 15 consecutive regular season games. The Yellow Jackets have shut out eight opponents during the winning streak.
