A look at the 20 players who were considered in August to be in the Heisman Trophy mix, and where their campaigns stand now:

Stiffest Competition

Reggie Bush, RB, USC: Stock boosted by three touchdowns and The Push vs. Notre Dame, and Trojans' bid to three-peat will only enhance exposure.

Vince Young, QB, Texas: Under the radar despite only four incompletions vs. Colorado, but might be leading Longhors to title-game showdown with the Trojans.

Matt Leinart, QB, USC: Lurking after three clutch plays on final drive vs. Notre Dame, and -- hello? -- he won it last season.

Still Thinking

Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame: Played Leinart to a head-to-head draw. The Irish mystique is a plus; two losses are not.

Maurice Drew, RB, UCLA: Scored 14 touchdowns, almost half of Bruins' season total; perhaps the most underexposed of the top contenders.

Laurence Maroney, RB, Minnesota: Has three games of more than 200 rushing yards, but Gophers' two recent losses hurt his chances.

Marcus Vick, QB, Virginia Tech: Completing almost 70 percent of passes, plus Hokies are a title-game contender.

Farewell to Arms

Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma: Injuries and team's ineptitude sank chances.

Ted Ginn Jr., WR, Ohio State: Has been an invisible playmaker.

Omar Jacobs, QB, Bowling Green: Has the stats -- 20 TDs -- but team has two losses.

Chris Leak, QB, Florida: After fine start, now struggling mightily in new offense.

Devin Hester, PR-CB, Miami: Only has one touchdown.

Chad Henne, QB, Michigan: Often blamed for Michigan's 4-3 start.

Mike Hart, RB, Michigan: Missed almost three games because of hamstring injury.

Gerald Riggs Jr., RB, Tennessee: Averaged 2.7 yards per carry vs. Georgia.

Steve Breaston, WR, Michigan: Only had three games with more than one catch.

Reggie McNeal, QB, Texas A&M: Good stats overshadowed by team's struggles.

Jared Zabransky, QB, Boise State: Four interceptions in season-opening loss eliminated J-Z.

Drew Tate, QB, Iowa: Completed five passes in blowout loss to rival Iowa State.

Tyler Palko, QB, Pittsburgh: Sacked five times and threw an interception in season-opening loss.
