Friday's results made the Virginia AAA Northern Region Division 5 playoff picture much less cloudy. With a key win over previously unbeaten Edison, Loudoun Valley solidified its spot in the region's top four, as did Madison, which beat Division 6 team Langley. Liberty District leader Stone Bridge and Edison also are in good shape, while Jefferson, Marshall and Yorktown will need to win their final two games and get help. . . .
Liberty kept its AA Region II Division 4 playoff hopes alive last week with a 47-7 victory over Warren County. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Eagles (6-2), who had lost back-to-back outings for the first time since 1999. Liberty held senior H.B. Banjoman, the Washington area's leading rusher, to 2.8 yards per carry. . . .
Osbourn Park senior wide receiver-defensive back Anthony Bratton has scored at least one touchdown in seven of eight games this season, and you never know just how he will make his way to the end zone. Bratton has all eight of his team's touchdown receptions and also has returned two punts (51 and 67 yards), a kickoff (88 yards) and a fumble (89 yards) for touchdowns. One of his punt-return scores came in a 23-0 win over Culpeper on Friday.
