Chantilly held Westfield All-Met running back Evan Royster to a season-low average of 5.4 yards per carry in a 34-7 loss Friday. Royster entered the game averaging 11.4 yards per carry and had more than 100 yards rushing in each of the Bulldogs' first eight games. He carried 17 times for 91 yards Friday, scored two touchdowns and returned a punt 83 yards. With the Virginia AAA Concorde District title at stake against Robinson this Friday, Royster will face a defense against which he gained 132 yards on 20 carries in the 2003 Northern Region Division 6 championship game (which Westfield won, 28-7). . . .

The race for the AA Dulles District title -- and an automatic berth in the Region II playoffs -- has come down to the final week of the regular season. Park View, despite its 4-5 overall record, can secure at least a share of the district title and a postseason slot with a victory at Broad Run (1-8). The Patriots defeated the Spartans, 46-23, on Sept. 30 in a nondistrict game, but Broad Run senior running back Thayer Nelson left in the first half with a high ankle sprain. Before the injury, Nelson (898 yards, seven touchdowns) had carried the ball eight times for 106 yards and a touchdown and had the Spartans leading, 15-14.

Heritage (6-3) also remains in the hunt for at least a share of its first district title in the school's four-year history if it can win at Loudoun County (4-5) on Friday. The Pride also needs Park View to lose to make the playoffs.
