[2] Texas at Texas A&M

Today, noon, WJLA-7, WMAR-2

Texas has a game scheduled today, so presumably there is at least a chance the Longhorns can lose. But don't bet on it. This is one of those games -- Southern California at California is another -- that, in August, appeared like a must-see matchup. It has deteriorated because the Aggies have been one of the nation's most underachieving teams the past three months. They had a Heisman Trophy hopeful in quarterback Reggie McNeal. Entering today, the only player in this game worth mentioning in the same sentence as Heisman is Texas quarterback Vince Young, who needs a sensational game to keep pace with USC running back Reggie Bush, who put up statistics against Fresno State as if he were a character in a video game.

Nebraska at Colorado

Today, 3:30 p.m., WJLA-7, WMAL-2

By choosing this game, we are violating national media guidelines stipulating that no matchup of teams from the ghastly Big 12 North Division should ever be previewed, much less watched. We're not listing this game because the outcome likely will give Cornhuskers fans another reason to tear into their coach on message boards throughout the night. But the outcome will go a long way toward determining whom Texas will play in the Big 12 title game in Houston on Dec. 3. Like it or not, the game matters. If Colorado wins, the Buffaloes are in.

[6] Notre Dame at Stanford

Tomorrow, 8 p.m., WJLA-7, WMAL-2

A dangerous game for the Fighting Irish. When Notre Dame beat Tennessee on Nov. 5, everyone seemed to pencil in the Irish for a 9-2 regular season record and a berth in the BCS. It seems like Notre Dame has played home games since the first gust of crisp air arrived in South Bend. Coach Charlie Weis's team has not played on the road since beating Purdue on Oct. 1. There is a tendency to take the Cardinal lightly after Stanford's blowout loss to a mediocre California team last week. Sure, this is the same Stanford team that lost to California-Davis early this season. But it's also the same team that held a three-touchdown lead against UCLA on Oct. 29. If Notre Dame wins, it will almost certainly play in the Fiesta Bowl.

South Florida at Connecticut

Tomorrow, 3:30 p.m., pay-per-view

Yeah, we know it is the Big East and it goes against every moral fiber in most of us to watch or even follow a Big East football game this time of year. A basketball game between these schools would be more interesting. Since the chase for the Rose Bowl is no chase at all -- Texas and USC appear locks for Pasadena -- check out the race to earn the BCS berth from the worst power conference in the nation. The Bulls still have a chance to snatch it if they win tomorrow and beat West Virginia next week.

[23] Florida State at [19] Florida

Tomorrow, 3:30 p.m., WUSA-9, WJZ-13

This is another contest that deserves only a few words because both programs disappointed this year. So much for the Urban renewal in Gainesville in Year One of Coach Urban Meyer's tenure. The Gators could be on a four-game losing streak had Georgia quarterback D.J. Shockley been healthy against Florida and had a couple of plays gone differently in the Gators' double-overtime victory against Vanderbilt. The Seminoles have lost two straight but will still play in the ACC title game Dec. 3.
