America’s ever-elusive first lady, Melania Trump, will be the subject of an unauthorized biography written by CNN’s East Wing correspondent Kate Bennett. The cheekily titled “Free, Melania,” will reveal “just how groundbreaking Melania Trump is and why she matters,” according to publishing house Flatiron Books.

With “unparalleled access to Melania’s very small and loyal inner circle,” the announcement continued, Bennett will use her original reporting to show how “the seemingly most reluctant First Lady is, in many ways, the most modern and groundbreaking First Lady ever.”

One of the only reporters to cover Mrs. Trump exclusively, Bennett worked on a similar but separate project that attempted to delve deeper into Mrs. Trump’s life: the CNN documentary, “Woman of Mystery: Melania Trump.”

A former fashion editor, Bennett has been covering the former fashion model for the cabler since 2017. She has described the first lady in interviews as “the unicorn” while also dismissing the perception that Mrs. Trump is nothing more than a trophy wife. In her doc that aired in June, Bennett said that Trump was “the most unusual first lady in modern history."

That inside look into Trump’s life covered the first lady’s sartorial choices (remember that jacket?) and her allegedly strained marriage to Donald Trump, but the reporting was also criticized as being more fluff than deep dive. Bennett did, however, get a rare public peek into the East Wing and a sit-down with White House insiders, including Stephanie Grisham, Mrs. Trump’s pugnacious press secretary who has since replaced Sarah Sanders as White House press secretary.

Bennett announced her forthcoming book on Aug. 13 on Twitter. The tome will be published in December.
