Your 2011 Washington Redskins starting quarterback is...

Beck rolls to his left in his own end zone, fires a deep long ball to Donte Stallworth in single coverage, Lardarius Webb makes an unbelievable play and comes down with the interception. Normally I’m none too pleased when the...

NBA players who did more with less

With the future prospects of the NBA looking bleak, bloggers tend to shift their gaze longingly (or mockingly) to the past. Here’s a list of players who made the most with the least talent or physical skills.

D.C. United at Kansas City match diary & player ratings

The other day, I took a look at the standings for the first time this season and realized D.C. United are right on the cusp of a playoff spot. This is partly because they play in the East, but things are shaping up well...but only if United can turn potential points into actual points.

Nationals’ infield decisions mirror history

The Nationals should avoid the temptation to be too hasty when deciding which two players will be their middle infield of the future. As history has proven, it often pays to wait and see what you have before dealing a quality prospect at an overcrowded position.

D.C. United at Chicago match diary & player ratings

There are only two types of stats in soccer: misleading and useless. Here’s a useless stat: in seven matches for United, Dwayne De Rosario has six goals and three assists. This stat is useless because unless you’re blind, you know that De Rosario has been unbelievable since coming over. You don’t need stats to tell you that.

It’s time for the NHL to phase out fighting once and for all

It’s always tough to question and demand change from a systemic culture that has deep roots, but it’s time for hockey fans to step up and demand an end to fighting in the NHL.

Does Miami football deserve the NCAA’s “Death Penalty”?

Paying players is one thing, but here you’ve reportedly got everything from providing players mansions and endless strippers and hookers to providing enough cash that Scrooge McDuck could take a dive in it and swim around.

D.C. United vs. Vancouver match diary & player ratings

This match had all the makings of a win: Vancouver are terrible on the road, D.C. United is in pretty good form at the moment, and they’re just due. If United can’t turn this into three points, then they don’t deserve to make the playoffs.

Why you should support the 2011 Redskins

As a devout Redskins fan I always want them to win, but as a humble citizen of planet Earth I’m compelled to suggest that everyone should want the 2011 Redskins to win every game by 50 points. The future of mankind depends on it.

Nationals amateur draft parallels previous opportunity

The Nationals were given a huge opportunity in the June amateur draft when they offered Adam Dunn arbitration and he chose not to re-sign. When the White Sox signed Dunn, the Nationals received Chicago’s first round pick and a supplemental...

U.S. vs. Mexico recap & player ratings

My first impression of the national team under Jurgen Klinsmann is that they are a lot smaller and blurrier than the team under Bob Bradley. But that may be because I watched this game on a phone in the back of a comedy club.

D.C. United vs. Toronto FC match diary and player ratings

Yes, there are holes in this D.C. United team. Some guys aren’t pulling their weight, and some of the results are pretty disappointing. But the progress from this time last year is undeniable.

Star power: Alex Ovechkin has done something Stephen Strasburg will never accomplish

The very fact that Ovechkin is mentioned among Redskins and Strasburg tells me how popular he has become. Ten or twenty years ago, would any Cap have made the top 5 on a theoretical “DC Superstars” list?

DC United vs. Toronto FC match preview

You don’t win the MLS Cup by charging hard out of the gate; you win MLS Cup by being good enough and then rounding into form during the playoffs, and United is showing glimpses of being a team that could make a playoff run.

D.C. United at San Jose match diary and player ratings

I only had time to watch one match: would it be Manchester United v. Barcelona? No: I chose DC United vs. San Jose, two aspiring-middle-class MLS teams. The only break I took from spackling and painting the holes I kicked in the wall last season was to watch this match.
