Rockville’s Rachel and Michael Parsons just missed a medal in the ice dance competition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, Austria, finishing fourth overall Tuesday after two days of competition as a Russian team dominated.

The Parsons siblings, who represent the Washington Figure Skating Club, earned fourth in the short dance and free dance, tallying 114.22 points overall.

Russians Sergey Mozgov and Anna Yanovskaya claimed the gold medal with 149.96; Ukrainians Aleksandra Nazarova and Maxim Nikitin got the silver with 131.68; and Russians Maria Simonova and Dmitri Dragun earned the bronze with 125.22.

Rachel, 14, and Michael, 16, will next travel to the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in San Jose where they will seek as second straight U.S. title; last year, they claimed the gold medal in the novice division.

Laurel’s Thomas Hong, a four-time U.S. champion from the Potomac Speedskating Club, will compete in the short track speedskating competition in Innsbruck later this week.
