Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Trying to acclimate but wind at times leaves me considering a.m. gloves. Too cool, too soon?

Express Forecast

Today: Partly sunny, breezy. Highs: 50s.

Tonight: Mainly clear. Lows: Low-to-mid 30s.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, chilly morning. Highs: Mid-50s to near 60.

Looks like serious autumn (early winter?) weather has arrived. You’ll feel it most in the mornings, with temperatures near freezing in some places early this morning and again early tomorrow morning. Bundle up as needed, but also note that we do see gradually warmer weather, especially the afternoons, as we get into the weekend. In the meantime, here’s a protip: walk on the sunny side of the street to stay a bit more comfortable!

Wind Chill Map

Wind chills: Latest D.C. area wind chills. See more maps on our Weather Wall.

Today (Friday): Any warmth provided by the sun is negated by the cold air mass, clouds bubbling up at times, and a somewhat gusty breeze. Highs most likely end up in the low-to-mid 50s with a few spots south of town into the upper 50s if bright sunshine remains un-clouded. Grab a windbreaker with winds from the northwest at 10-15 mph, gusting higher at times. Ooof. Confidence: High

Tonight: Brr, continued. With clear skies probable, protect any portable/potted plants so that they don’t freeze, as lows likely land in the low-to-mid 30s. Breezes could calm below 5 mph, allowing some low-lying spots even inside the Beltway to frost or freeze a bit. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Saturday): Begs us to head outside. Despite the chilly morning, mostly sunny skies combine with a 10-15 mph breeze from the milder southwest direction to give temperatures a bit of a lift. Highs should top out in the mid-50s to near 60. Still kind of chilly through much of the day, especially in the shade, but we are starting to get acclimated, right? Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Not as wintry a feel as fairly to mostly cloudy conditions keep temperatures from sinking too low. Overnight lows mainly in the upper 30s to low 40s mean we all should stay above the freezing mark. Little worry about frost or a freeze. Confidence: Medium

Sunday: Skies should remain mostly sunny, and by afternoon temperatures find their way toward highs in the upper 50s to low 60s. Not bad at all. Confidence: Medium

Sunday night: Overnight lows still get a bit nippy, with mid-30s possible in the usual cold spots outside the Beltway, to as “warm” as low 40s possible downtown. Breezes should remain light and variable with a few clouds at times, but stars should still be visible. Confidence: Medium

Monday and Tuesday likely feature more sun than clouds and a continued warming trend. With high pressure in control, there’s no real rain threat around as morning temperatures climb through the 40s into the 50s, and afternoon highs reach the 60s. Something to look forward to, right? Confidence: Medium
