Rep. Joe Wilson hospitalized with viral infection

South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson, who famously shouted out “You lie” during President Obama’s 2009 address to a joint session of Congress, has been hospitalized due to a viral infection, his office said Thursday.

“Congressman Wilson is currently under treatment for the signs and symptoms of a chronic viral-type infection at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, S.C.,” Wilson’s chief of staff, Eric Dell, said in an e-mail Thursday. “While the exact infectious agent has not yet been defined, there is no evidence of serious complication and complete recovery is expected.”

Wilson’s office on Sunday posted a message on the lawmaker’s Web site stating that his annual district tour would be postponed until Sep. 26-30 “due to [Wilson’s] recent possible contraction of Lyme disease.” The Hill reported that the six-term House member last week began exhibiting symptoms of the disease after working in his yard.
