Obama invites bipartisan congressional leaders to dinner

President Obama will host a dinner for a bipartisan group of congressional leaders and their spouses at the White House on Monday evening, according to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.

Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, will also be present, as will members of the Cabinet and some of Obama’s senior aides. No word yet on the topic of conversation, but deficit and debt ceiling negotiations are expected to heat up when Congress returns to Washington next week. ABC’s Jake Tapper reports that his sources say the dinner is “intended as a get-to-know-you effort in the spirit of bipartisanship and collegiality.”

Politico reports that House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) have agreed to attend.
