Sweet temptations abound this time of year — including our fruitcake extravaganza (Dec. 5) and holiday cookies issue (Dec. 12). Everything in moderation, eh?

Area farmers markets are also awash in baked goods, but at least there you can feel somewhat better about the fact that you can burn calories as you browse outdoors. This week we’re liking the sound of tea cakes from Rockahock Farm at today’s FreshFarm Market in Penn Quarter, gluten-free pumpkin-cranberry bread from Goldilocks Goodies at Saturday’s Columbia Heights Community Marketplace and chocolate chip hazelnut scones from Atwater’s Bakery at Saturday’s FreshFarm Market in Silver Spring.
