Pizza Hut may have discovered a new route to a man’s heart — through his nose.
The chain is releasing the limited-edition scent, which smells of “freshly baked, hand-tossed dough,” in response to an Internet joke that began last August.
An aromachologist brewed 110 bottles of Eau de Pizza Hut, which the chain sent to 110 Facebook fans. The perfume commemorates Pizza Hut Canada reaching 100,000 Facebook fans, according to the news release.
The process was not always tasty, though, marketing director Beverly D’Cruz told the Global and Mail. “All of them were not fun,” she said. “Cheese. You’d think cheese smells nice. Not so.”
D’Cruz also said in the news release that the chain has no plans to market the scent en masse. But if the Internet buzz is any indication, consumers are hungry for more. Pizza Hut Canada’s Facebook wall is plastered with comments from eager buyers such as Theresa Naser Morlan, who writes that she would “do anything to get one.” One blogger already has posted a list of “ten other food fragrances I’d like to see bottled,” including pad Thai, spaghetti Bolognese and cheeseburger.
Burger King beat her to the last one. It retailed its meat-flavored body spray, Flame by BK, for $3.99 a bottle in 2008.
