The pop stars are coming! The pop stars are coming!

R&B star Alicia Keys, country singer Brad Paisley, soul icon Stevie Wonder, pop-rock troupe fun. and others are headed to Washington for an array of balls and concerts, the Presidential Inaugural Committee announced Friday.

The committee also plans to give a limited number of free tickets to the Kids’ Inaugural concert to local school children, a spokeswoman said late Friday.

Also scheduled to appear at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center for the Kids’ Inaugural concert on Jan. 19 and the official Inaugural balls on Jan. 21: Usher, Marc Anthony, Smokey Robinson, Far East Movement, John Legend, Mindless Behavior, Nick Cannon, Soul Children of Chicago and members of the cast of “Glee.”

A representative at the committee tells us program details are still being ironed out, so who will perform at which event isn’t clear — but we’re ready to put money on boy band Mindless Behavior as a lock for the Kids’ concert. The committee also promises more names for both events in the days ahead.

The committee said a limited number of free tickets to the Kids’ Inaugural will be distributed to students from KIPP public charter schools, Anacostia High School and Washington Mathematics Science Technology Public Charter School. In addition, tickets for the inaugural parade will go to Miriam’s Kitchen, Martha’s Table, Capital Area Food Bank, Harriet Tubman Elementary School and Bancroft Elementary School.

“Making sure the local community has an opportunity to attend these historic events continues a tradition that President Obama and the first lady began in 2009 when D.C. public schoolchildren were also invited to the Kids’ Inaugural,” committee spokeswoman Addie Whisenant said Friday. “These schools and groups were chosen because they reflect the spirit of service in Washington, D.C., and represent students of all ages.” — Staff writer Fredrick Kunkle contributed to this post.
