Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, for one, is living proof that you’re never too old to experiment with your look. She seems to be adding another signature element to her elegant repertoire; in addition to her ubiquitous lace evening gloves and tight chignons, RBG is now fond of sporting Mandarin-style jackets.

Callista Gingrich, the luminously blonde wife of former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, played it safe with a knee-length black sheath accessorized by a double-stranded pearl necklace.

Shamim Jawad, another social scene regular and wife of former Afghanistan Ambassador Said Jawad, also opted for an above-the-knee monotone cocktail dress.

American Red Cross Chairman Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, who strode around the Opera House in a striking off-the-shoulder ruffled gown that further elongated her swanlike neck, received most of the evening’s fashion accolades.
