The Kennedy Center announced Wednesday that Neil Diamond is one of the 2011 Honorees.
David M. Rubenstein, the center’s chairman, said of Diamond: “Neil Diamond’s songwriting genius has created one of the most enduring catalogs of American popular music and his live performances have captivated audiences for five decades.”
In an interview Diamond said he had performed more than 2,000 concerts. Here is one at Madison Square Garden with Diamond and the fans, known as Diamondheads, singing the song inspired by Caroline Kennedy, who will host the Honors salute in December. Here’s: “Sweet Caroline.”
