The Washington Post

An update to our iPhone app: Take it for a spin.

The new app has a lot of flashy features to recommend: rich traffic and weather sections, embedded photo galleries in articles, links to related content and a cool photo slider on the homepage. But I’d like to dwell for just a minute on our new navigational concept.

We’re also giving you the option to customize the bar of sections that appears at the top of the app. If you’re a big Food fan, tap the edit button when you’re looking at this list of sections and press the green plus sign next to the Food feed. It will then appear in the Bookmark Bar at the top of your app. Our hope is that this makes it easy for you to find all of your favorite Post voices every day.

This is a pretty geeky feature, I know, but for a content-heavy app like ours, navigation is critical for how readers find what they want. User experience is something we’re always working to improve across our platforms, so I’d love to hear what you think about the new nav or the app in general.
