Game 2 of the American League Championship Series between the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers has been postponed because of expected rain in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. The teams are scheduled to play Monday at 4:19 p.m. instead of tonight.
The Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the series Saturday night in a game postponed twice by rain for a total of 1 hour, 50 minutes. Max Scherzer was scheduled to face Derek Holland in Sunday’s pitching matchup. The Tigers’ Scherzer pitched in relief in Thursday’s Game 5 victory over the New York Yankees, and so the extra day of rest may benefit him. The matchup is not expected to change.
Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordonez will miss the remainder of the postseason with an ankle injury, Manager Jim Leyland said. The Tigers are playing without outfielder and No. 3 hitter Delmon Young, who suffered a left oblqiue strain in Game 5 of the ALDS. Both right-handed bats would have been key against a predominantly left-handed Texas rotation.
We’ll have more later.
