Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz of the Rangers extended their season-opening home run streak to three straight games against the Red Sox on Sunday, as did Mark Teixeira of the Yankees in 10-7 loss to the Tigers. They are tied with several other players for the second-longest such streak since 1919 (which is as far back as baseballreference.com’s excellent play index has regular season data). Mark McGwire (1998) and Willie Mays (1971) are tied for the most consecutive games with a home run to start a season with four. The Rangers face the Mariners on Monday. Kinsler is a .350 career hitter (7 for 20) against Seattle starter Erik Bedard but has never hit a home run off of him. Cruz is 3 for 8 against Bedard, with one home run. The Yankees play the Twins on Monday, and Teixeira is .500 (6 for 12) lifetime against Twins starter Scott Baker, with one home run.
