Poll: Tea party splits Republicans on debt debate

Struggles within the Republican caucus to reach a compromise on the debt ceiling are fueled by House members affiliated with the tea party movement. Those same dynamics are at work with the broader public, the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll found. Republican and GOP-leaning independents who are most strongly aligned with the tea party movement are much more vehement than other Republicans in their views about the debt ceiling.
