Abigail Washburn first came to my notice in January with her NPR Tiny Desk Concert, where she mixed American banjo playing with Chinese folk music. It’s not a combination you hear every day, but there was something effervescent about her performance.
This morning, the radio network has a first look at a music video she’s just produced with the art collective Mason Jar Music. As she sings the bluegrass classic “Nobody’s Fault But Mine,” she strolls through a dilapidated, empty New York hotel building, her voice eeriely echoing of the walls. It’s a gorgeous, haunting song:
