Ashton, you’ve been Punk’d. This account is not secure. Dude, where’s my SSL?
P.S. This is for those young protesters around the world who deserve not to have their Facebook & Twitter accounts hacked like this. #SSL
The news was reported by tech blog Read Write Web. It's unclear how the account was hacked (and Kutcher could even be in on the prank. At the very least, he's at least tacitly approving of it by not removing the tweets or responding to them.)
Last fall, a program Firesheep was developed to show how easy it is to log onto people's Facebook and Twitter accounts when using an open wireless network. Facebook and Twitter do not require secure connections. (Read Write Web offers up some solutions on how to secure your computer when using Wi-Fi.)
@TwitterGlobalPR responded with a tweet:
Users can use Twitter via HTTPS: http://t.co/q84H6K3. We’ve long been working on offering HTTPS as a user setting & will share more soon.
TED, a conference that brings together some of the world's top thinkers to discuss innovations in technology, entertainment and design, is notorious for creative ways of getting points across. Bill Gates once famously released a swarm of mosquitoesinto the audience to illustrate his speech on malaria.
