In classic Daily Show comparison shot, Stewart cut between the new Kelly defending maternity to older shots of her attacking “government entitlements.”
“They’re really only entitlements,” Stewart says, “when they’re something other people want. When it’s something you want, they’re a hallmark of a great society... ‘I just had a baby, and found out that maternity leave strengthens society, but since I still have a job, unemployment benefits are clearly socialism.’” Watch the video below.
Stewart also visited Iowa where Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann and other GOP presidential hopefuls gathered for the Ames straw poll, the outcome of which is thought to be an early indicator of who will become the nominee.
“Candidates reserve space at the gathering – with prime locations costing more – where they can make their case to the voters, and pay for people to be bused to Ames in order to vote for them (or someone else),” the Fix’s Aaron Blake explained. It’s these locations, or tents, that the “Daily Show’s” Jon Stewart think make all the difference, not the debate.
“And no one can pitch a tent like Michele Bachmann,” Stewart said of the Minnesota congresswoman’s offering of a petting zoo, Randy Travis tent and chairs.
Watch “The Daily Show’s” take on the tents, which contains on NSFW word at the bottom.
