An earthquake struck off the coast of Peru on Friday afternoon. The U.S. Geological Society reports it had a magnitude of 6.9. There was no tsunami warning. It struck about 170 miles south of Lima.

In August, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck the country without causing any major damages or injuries, but the country has not been so lucky in the past. Three major earthquakes have hit in the past decade with devastating consequences.
