The correct answer is this is Guatemala City, where people search for scrap metal in contaminated water at the bottom of one of the biggest trash dumps in the city.

In today’s photo of the day, we are featuring a trash dump, often referred to as “ The Mine,” because the locals search for scrap metal in the pile of trash and contaminated water. The city featured here has hundreds of landfills like this one, and the city’s inhabitants, locally known as “guajeros,” collect recycleable materials here, which they sell to earn their living.
