In what looked like a family-friendly version of Halloween, costumed crowds of zombies, witches and pirates took to the streets in Tel Aviv Thursday.

The kid-friendly story of Purim recalls the ad­ven­ture of Queen Esther and her cousin, Mordechai; the pair foiled the plot of the evil Haman, the king's adviser, and saved the Jews of ancient Persia.
