Rupert Murdoch was hit in the face by what appears to be a shaving-cream pie by a male attacker during Tuesday’s parliamentary committee hearing about the News Corp. phone hacking scandal.

Wendi Deng, Murdoch’s wife, and his son James Murdoch jumped to his defense. It appears that Deng, a former volleyball player, slapped the assailant, who reportedly shouted, “You are a greedy billionaire.”

Sky News is reporting that the plate-thrower is a comedian named Jonnie Marbles, who tweeted this shortly before the incident: “It is a far better thing that I do now than I have ever done before #splat.” You can read more about Marbles here.

The man was removed from the committee room and the hearing resumed shortly after the incident.
