Discovery News reports that Bangkok could wind up below sea level in 50 years, as flooding increases and the city sinks.

For now, evacuations have been announced in 12 of the city’s 50 districts, and the Thai government is racing to figure out a plan to stave off the rising waters. It will likely cost billions of dollars to fortify the system of dikes and dams currently in place, which are not doing enough to hold back the water from three months of monsoon rains.
