Donald Trump discussed his company’s plans to turn the Old Post Office Pavilion into a luxury hotel by the Trump Hotel Collection recently in a video interview (below) posted online by NBC4 Washington.
Trump tells the interviewer that, “I think this has a chance to be one of the great hotels of the world if not the best.”
He also said he would create connections between the new hotel, to be called “Trump International Hotel, The Old Post Office, Washington, D.C.,” and Trump National Golf Club in Potomac Falls, which features two golf courses. “You add [the golf club] to it, it’s going to even, I think, really give it a big boost,” he said.
Critics say the federal government should not have selected a businessman with a history of bankruptcies, particularly when other more established hotel companies submitted plans for the property. Trump acknowledged the strong competition but wasn’t lacking in confidence.
“We’re going to do a job like, I think, nobody,” he said.
