Temperatures: Latest D.C. area temperature map. See interactive map on our Weather Wall.

Today (Thursday): The sun beats down early in the day and shows no mercy into the afternoon. Humidity is noticeable but could be worse. This keeps the chance for an afternoon or evening t’storm pretty slim (20%). Even if one does catch you, it should be brief. Breezes are light from the north. Highs reach the upper 90s to lower 100s. Records for the date are 102 at Reagan National and BWI and 99 at Dulles. Confidence: High

Tonight: Clouds disappear quickly at sunset. Evening readings remain painfully warm with 80s prevalent. No breeze is to be found. The lows do eventually reach the 70s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): Sunshine is unchallenged. Temperatures climb without pause. Humidity is moderate but enough to still dislike. Highs in most areas again top out in the upper 90s to lower 100s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Stars shimmer in this kind of heat. Evening readings have to work hard just to slip into the 80s. Lows end up in the 70s with the upper 70s in the downtown area. Confidence: High

Saturday is a great time to get up before the dawn and not just because it isn’t so hot. The rising of Jupiter followed by Venus in the eastern sky around 5 a.m. is a wonder to view. Other than that, I would just as soon stay indoors. This is another day with 100s written all over it. A few areas may hold in the upper 90s near water but lower 100s are likely and a few mid-100s are not out of the question. Sunny skies only give in to a few puffs of afternoon clouds. Evening readings crawl through the 90s with overnight lows in the mid 70s to near 80. Confidence: High

Sunday is the day to watch the northern horizon for our salvation; a cold front. Unfortunately, it is going to duel with this hot airmass and may not arrive in time to head off mid-to-upper 90s for highs. There is a much better chance to set off some thunderstorms late in the day and into the evening (60%). It could knock the edge off the heat a little faster but most of us still see 80s for the evening. Lows reach the 70s Confidence: Medium

Monday is likely to feel relatively refreshing. For one, humidity should be noticeably lower and highs should only be in the seasonable range of mid-to-upper 80s. We could still see some thundershowers early in the day before they race off to the south. Confidence: Medium
