The thermometers around our area are working overtime this week with plenty of wild swings expected. In fact, every day should have different temperature ranges with 50s today, 60s tomorrow, 40s on Thursday, and cold 30s on Friday again.

A big jump and then big drop in temperatures typically involves a big cold front, and one is scheduled for Wednesday night with heavy rain and even lightning/thunder before the cold air returns to end the week. The weekend is looking seasonally cold with a chance of light snow late Saturday or early Sunday.

Today (Tuesday): A wedge of cool air may still stall around the area to give us a slow start to the day with scattered fog and widespread cloud cover. Temperatures struggle to push up through the 40s, but the city to southern parts of our area should more likely reach into the low 50s with breaks of sun by the afternoon. Winds should be light and from the southeast at 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy and warm enough to give our heaters a bit of a break with temperatures holding in the 40s to low 50s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected, but we could see some sun at times as temperatures skyrocket into the 60s in most areas. Some areas toward the south side could see upper 60s! Winds are light in the morning but pick up to 15-20 mph by the afternoon. A 30% chance of showers is seen towards the late afternoon into early evening. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Showers and thunderstorms, some with heavy rain, arrive through about midnight or just an hour or two after. Much of the area could pick up over an inch of rain from this powerful front. Temperatures start falling after midnight, reaching the upper 30s to middle 40s by sunrise. Confidence: Medium

Thursday is colder and breezy with highs back into the low-to-mid 40s. The dew points collapse during the day, quickly drying us out. Skies should be partly to mostly sunny. Thursday night turns colder with lows in the 20s with just a few clouds around. There is a slight chance of flurries or snow showers toward dawn. Confidence: Medium

Friday could see some flurries in the early AM, but otherwise, should see a partly sunny day with colder highs in the 30s. Friday night aims for mostly clear skies with lows in the teens to low-mid 20s. Confidence: Low-Medium

The weekend continues the colder situation with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s on Saturday and mainly 40s on Sunday along with partly sunny skies. A weak disturbance Saturday night into Sunday morning could trigger some light snow across the area as lows dip into the teens and 20s. Confidence: Low-Medium
