Forecast: A breath of fresh air

A perfectly pleasant weekend is on tap

Today’s Daily Digit
A somewhat subjective rating of the
day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

After the last few days, this is pretty close to perfect. A tad windy and I am still pouting about not getting any rain for my garden yesterday.

Someone squeegeed the atmosphere today! A testament to just how much the air has dried comes tonight when the suburbs get almost chilly. Never fear though, summertime highs are still in good supply through the weekend but with more tolerable 80s instead of this week’s 90s. The only minor shower threat comes late Saturday and that will be unlikely to be more than widely scattered light stuff. Great outdoor weather but gardens are getting parched. I will have more to say on that later today in my gardening blog.

Today (Thursday): Audible sighs of relief are in the air this morning as much drier air surges in on blustery winds from the northwest. Sun reigns supreme and since that angle is just about at its peak for the season, temperatures surge up into the mid-to-upper 80s. Without the humidity, it should feel like a walk in the park, so why not take one! Confidence: High

Tonight: Breezes from the north at 10-15 mph continue to push drier cooler air into the region. An evening out and about is a delight and recommended even if you have nowhere to go. Temperatures zip down to the 70s. Low are going to be just this side of chilly in the suburbs where upper 40s are possible but still mid-to-upper 50s downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): Loads of sun on tap today. The breezes back off to a manageable 5 to 10 mph still from the north. Readings are perfectly seasonable for the date, peaking mainly in the lower 80s. Thin high clouds are likely to dull the sunshine late afternoon but rain chances are nil. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: The thin veil of clouds should not be enough to keep the evening crescent moon from making an early appearance. 70s are widespread for the out on the town crowd. Dry air continues to allow a good drop overnight to lows in the 50s. Confidence: High

Saturday skies continue to have a good helping of high clouds as a warm front gradually pushes through the area. Never fear, the humidity levels only slowly creep up as do the temperatures. Look for highs to peak in the mid-80s with the typical hot spots capable of upper 80s. There is the possibility that a few rogue showers could sneak down from Pennsylvania late afternoon or evening but your chance of seeing one is about 1 in 5. Lows should slip to the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium

Sunday should be clearing as any showers today focus to the east of the area. Breezes from the north should keep humidity on the defensive and make those highs in the mid-to-upper 80s relatively comfortable. Temperatures slowly fall to the 70s in the evening to accomodate the backyard grillers. Lows bottom out in the mid-60s. Confidence: Medium

Monday is perfect if it weren’t for having to go back to work. Humidity levels are on the low side for this time of year. Highs are comfortable ranging from the low-to-mid 80s under bright and sunny skies. Confidence: Medium
