If you’re sick of the heat, join the crowd. But consider - just two more days and it’s going to get much better. Wednesday through Friday promises to be an outstanding stretch of summer weather. Looking for a long duration, soaking rain? I can’t offer much help there, but Tuesday and Sunday offer at least medium odds of some showers and storms.

Today (Monday): To begin with a positive, it won’t be as humid as Sunday (dew points 65-70, instead of 70-75+). But the big summer heat dome envelops us for another day, and high temperatures stretch into the mid-90s. Skies are mostly sunny a considerable part of the day but a disturbance passing by to the north may increase clouds and trigger a storm or two (20% chance immediate area). Favored areas are well north and northwest of D.C. Winds are from the west and northwest around 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Any evening storms (mainly north of the region) diminish after sunset. Skies are clear to partly cloudy, with balmy lows from the upper 60s in the cooler suburbs to the mid-70s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Keep reading for the forecast through the weekend...

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Clouds increase ahead of a cold front advancing towards the region. There’s a decent (at least 50/50) chance of afternoon showers and storms, which may produce heavy downpours and some strong winds. Before any rain, we should have enough sunshine to muster highs in the low 90s with a continuation of moderate to high humidity levels. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Storms wind down in the evening, followed by gradual clearing. Overnight lows range from the mid-60s in the cooler suburbs to the low 70s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Wednesday through Friday, for the most part, is magnificent. The lone wrinkle may be Wednesday when the cooler and drier air won’t yet be entirely established. But Thursday and Friday should be two of the nicest days we’ve had in some time. The high on Wednesday is near 90 with an outside chance of an afternoon shower. Thursday and Friday are both partly to mostly sunny with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s along with low humidity. Overnight lows range from the upper 50s to low 60s in the cooler suburbs to near 70 downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Some heat and humidity return for the weekend. but from this vantage point the combination doesn’t look like anything extreme. Saturday is probably dry for the most part, with highs 85-90. On Sunday, a cold front nears the region, perhaps triggering some showers and storms, with highs again 85- 90. Overnight lows range from the mid-to-upper 60s in the cooler suburbs to the mid-70s downtown. Confidence: Medium
