8:40 a.m. update: The one model that was favoring development of an area of showers this afternoon along and east of I-95 has backed off of that idea. So looks like just an overall 30% chance of seeing a shower or two across the area today.

They say weather affects the mood. With all these clouds, and a chance of showers too, I’m getting crabby. Harumph.

Today: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Mid-to-upper 70s. | Tonight: Chance of isolated showers, muggy. 67-73. | Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy. 20% chance of a shower. Upper 70s to low 80s. | A Look Ahead | Get Express Forecast by E-mail

How sick are you of cloudy skies? We’ll get plenty more clouds through the early part of our week and shower chances too, thanks to a pesky, stagnant upper-level low pressure over the Midwest. On the bright side, once a cold front works through the area late Monday into Tuesday, we’re likely looking at much improved conditions for the latter half of the week.

Today (Sunday): It’s another cloudy day thanks to our upper-level low pressure still sitting over the Midwest. Areas of fog and/or mist are possible to start the morning, but any morning showers should be spotty. There’s a 40% chance we see an area of steadier rain develop in the afternoon, especially along or east of I-95. Mugginess remains with highs in the mid-to-upper 70s. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Still a 20-30% chance for showers in the evening, then decreasing overnight. Clouds aren’t going anywhere and keep us rather mild and humid. Look for overnight lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Monday): Clouds continue to dominate, though if we’re lucky we may actually see a few breaks of sun as we sneak into a bit of a dry slot. Even if the sunny breaks don't come to be, at least shower chances look minimal through the day, around 20%. Highs should reach the upper 70s to low 80s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Most shower activity through evening should stay west over the mountains. But as the upper-level low over the Midwest sends a cold front our way, shower chances increase overnight or by morning to around 50%. Lows drop only to near 70 or the low 70s beneath mostly cloudy skies. Confidence: Medium

The cold front works its way through our area on Tuesday bringing a decent chance, I’d say about 60% as of now, for more showers and possibly a thunderstorm. In the skies above, it’s just more of the same ol’ gray. Ugh. Upper 70s to low 80s should do it again for highs. Shower chances continue Tuesday night with lows in the upper 60s. Confidence: Medium

Finally, a break seems to be in sight by Wednesday, with shower chances and and clouds hopefully decreasing by afternoon as drier air tries to work in and highs head for near 80. But, with all the trouble we've had clearing out the clouds, it seems wise to keep forecast confidence on the low side this far out. Confidence: Low-Medium
