The very beginning and very end of the upcoming week look great. The middle: not so much. After enjoyable 80s today, we press 90 tomorrow and then into the 90s Wednesday into Friday. Humidity levels rise in concert with the temps. A cold front breaks the heat by the weekend, but hangs around long enough to keep showers and storms in the picture through at least Saturday. Of course, we’re really starting to need some rain.

Today (Monday): This might be the pick of the week. There’s no shortage of sunshine and humidity levels - while moderate - are tolerable (dewpoints around 60). It’s a great pool day with highs in the mid-80s. The pleasant breeze from the north is light at about 5-10 mph. Confidence: High

Tonight: A fine summer evening. Under mainly clear skies, temperatures gradually fall back through the 70s during the evening hours before settling in the 60s pre-dawn (mid-60s downtown, near 60 cooler suburbs). Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): You knew it was coming. Winds switch around and become southerly, and the heat is on. It’s not oppressive heat, but dewpoints rising into the low-to-mid 60s coupled with highs rising to near 90 move us into uncomfortable territory. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: It’s your typical D.C. muggy summer night. Lows only dip to around 70 downtown with some low-to-mid 60s in the cooler suburbs. Confidence: Medium-High

Wednesday and Thursday are both extremely hot and humid with highs in the mid-90s Wednesday and upper 90s to near 100 Thursday. I would not be surprised to see heat advisories issued for those two days. Wednesday night doesn’t cool off much, with lows 68-76 (suburbs to city). Confidence: Medium-High

A cold front slowly works through the region Thursday night and Friday, possibly producing a few thunderstorms. The front probably doesn’t make a strong enough push south to cool us down appreciably Friday, with highs still making their way into the low 90s. Friday night sees a slight chance of a storm, with lows 66-73 (suburbs to city). Confidence: Low-Medium

On Saturday, skies are partly cloudy and it’s cooler as the cold front should be positioned to our south. Nevertheless, it’s close enough to possibly to set off some showers and thunderstorms (especially in the afternoon/evening south of town). Highs are in the mid-80s with overnight lows 65-70. Confidence: Low-Medium

By Sunday, high pressure to the north may push far enough south to deliver a dry, pleasant day - with highs in the mid-80s under partly to mostly sunny skies. Confidence: Low-Medium
