Sunday’s high in the low 40s was the coldest since late October and perhaps the coldest for some time to come. A warmer than average weather pattern hangs tough for much of the upcoming week. It’s mostly dry too with the exception of part of Thursday and perhaps the tail end of next weekend

Today (Monday): The day gets off to a freezing start. If you have frost on your car windows, be sure to scrape them clean before hitting the roads. Sunny skies send temperatures through the 30s by late morning, with afternoon highs all the way up into the mid-to-upper 40s. Light winds. Confidence: High

Tonight: Clear skies and calm winds allow for rapid cooling after sunset. After failing to record a freeze through Friday, Reagan National probably will log its third straight tonight. Lows range from the mid-20s in the colder suburbs to the low 30s downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Another cold start, but more sunshine saves the day and we edge milder. Afternoon temperatures climb all the way into the low 50s with more or less calm winds. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Clear, calm and still cold. Temperatures fall all the way back into the mid-30s downtown, with mid-to-upper 20s in the colder suburbs. Confidence: Medium-High


Sunny skies Wednesday morning give way to some high clouds in the afternoon. Temps are similar to Tuesday, slightly above normal, with highs in the low-to-mid 50s. A weak cold front slides through the area late Thursday. Before it's arrival, it’s partly sunny and on the mild side, with highs 55-60. As the front comes through Thursday afternoon and night, there’s a 40% chance of showers. Lows Thursday night range from the upper 30s to mid-40s (suburbs to city). Confidence: Medium

Partly to mostly sunny and breezy Friday, as high pressure begins to build back into the region from the west. It’s still relatively mild, with highs 50-55. Mostly clear and cold Friday night, with lows from the upper 20s to mid-30s (suburbs to city). Confidence: Medium-High

It may be a bit colder Saturday, as cold high pressure sits to our north and northwest and presses southward. Skies are probably mostly sunny, with highs in the 40s. Clear and cold Saturday night, with lows in the 20s to near 30 (suburbs-city). Confidence: Medium

On Sunday, high pressure most likely keeps tranquil weather in the region, but we’ll need to watch a weather system developing to the southwest. Some of its cloud cover and moisture could stream into the region, but probably holds off until early next week. High temperatures should be in the 40s to near 50. Confidence: Low-Medium
