Forecast: Mild-mannered with more clouds

Today’s Daily Digit
A somewhat subjective rating of the
day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

More clouds make highs similar to Tuesday (low 50s) feel colder. Still above average so can’t go too low.

Today: Partly to mostly cloudy. Low 50s. | Tonight: Mostly cloudy. Upper 30s to mid-40s. | Tomorrow: Partly to mostly cloudy. 40-50% chance of mainly p.m. showers. Mid-50s to near 60. | A Look Ahead | Get Express Forecast by E-mail

At some point this winter, maybe Mother Nature will hit us with her best shot. For now, though, 4 out of 5 days with highs in the 40s (Dec. 8, 10, 11 and 12) is the most she’s been able to muster, and she doesn’t appear ready to fire away with anything worse anytime soon. Instead, we’re treated to another stretch of above-average temperatures through Friday, with a couple chances of precipitation along the way, followed by a cooler but not super-chilly weekend.

””Snow Potential Index: 1 (↑) - Slight chance of a few wet flakes Fri night. Accumulation potential almost nil & nothing else in the offing through at least Monday.

Today (Wednesday): Our relatively benign winter thus far stays that way today thanks to high pressure. After early-morning lows in the upper 20s to mid-30s, afternoon highs should manage the low 50s under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Breezes are light, from the east/northeast early and southeast later in the day. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy skies lead to a noticeably milder evening and overnight. Lows likely in the upper 30s to mid-40s would be a good 10 degrees above the average for mid-December. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Thursday): Skies remain partly to mostly cloudy. But a pretty good breeze from the south/southwest - around 10-15 mph - should be enough to boost highs to the mid-50s to near 60. The breeze is courtesy an approaching cold front, which brings a 40-50% chance of midday/afternoon showers. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Shower chances linger into the evening, but decrease a bit to around 30%. Skies clear some overnight or toward morning. But partly to mostly skies for the bulk of the night keep lows mild again - in the 40s for most. Confidence: Medium

Friday’s air mass is a cooler one. But with morning lows not very low at all, partly sunny skies shouldn’t have much of a problem keeping highs in above-average territory - low-to-mid 50s the way it looks now. Confidence: Medium-High

A bit more uncertainty enters the forecast for Friday night, with models showing an area of precipitation tracking near or south of the area. Combine that with temperatures on their way down to lows in the low-to-mid 30s, and we do run a 30-40% risk of a period of light rain or mixed precipitation. No accumulation or significant impacts expected. Confidence: Low-Medium

These quiet weather weekends are becoming old hat. Our luck is bound to run out eventually. But for now the nice weekend weather streak continues with partly sunny skies, highs in the mid-40s to near 50, and Saturday night lows in the mid-20s to mid-30s (suburbs to city). Confidence:Medium
